John has been with Redd since he qualified as a solicitor in 2005, after training with a large regional law firm. He has developed a broad practice covering all aspects of intellectual property and related issues.

His experience ranges from advising and acting in numerous trade mark and passing off disputes, acting in the Patents Court and Patents County Court in patent, design and copyright cases, taking customs enforcement actions against counterfeit goods entering the UK, and acting in complex breach of contract disputes concerning technical information and brand licences.

John regularly writes case reports for the ITMA Review, as well as contributing to other publications such as the INTA Bulletin, and IP Forum in Australia and New Zealand.

In 2010 John won the AIPPI national award for the best young contribution for his work in relation to trade mark dilution laws.

John is a keen five aside footballer and enjoys trying to surf when he gets the opportunity.

John's experience includes:
Acting for GSK and Boehringer Ingelheim in parallel import repackaging litigation before Court of Appeal and European Court of Justice.
Advising major software publisher on international parallel import strategy and claims in the UK before the High Court.
Conducting trade mark, passing off, copyright and database infringement enforcement action including against numerous infringements online including copy and fraudulent websites.
Representing clients in customs seizure and detention procedures including initiating proceedings in the patents county court.
Copyright and trade mark enforcement work and commercial drafting (including game development, licence and distribution agreements) for major computer games publisher.
Acting for Boegli-Gravures in patent infringement and invalidity proceedings before High Court and Court of Appeal.
Acting for DSB Invest Holdings SA in High Court proceedings concerning a patent and know how sale agreement of biological coating technology for medical devices.
Acting for clients in smaller value cases before the Patents County Court.
Coordinating multi-jurisdictional European data protection and privacy advice for a major mobile telecoms manufacturer.
Advising on terms and conditions of agreements relating to brand licensing and the supply of goods and services, in particular, in the food sector.
